SUPERMAN Y EL PRESIDENTE JOHN F. KENNEDY
Presentamos en esta página a Superman y John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917-1963) que fue el 35º Presidente de los Estados Unidos, el primero de religión Catolico-Romana y el presidente electo más joven. Como todos sabemos, el Presidente Kennedy fue elegido en Noviembre de 1960 y empezó a ejercer en Enero de 1961. Permaneció en la Casa Blanca hasta que fue asesinado en Dallas, Texas, en Noviembre de 1963 por Lee Harry Oswald. (Algunos de estos datos son de Robert Schottler de Falls Church, Virginia).
El Presidente Kennedy ha aparecido en tres ocasiones en los comics de Superman. La primera vez en Febrero de 1962 (el año aniversario de su elección) en el ACTION COMICS NO.285 "La mayor Heroina del Mundo!" by Jim Mooney en donde Superman presenta al mundo a Supergirl. John F. Kennedy la recibe en la Casa Blanca dándole la bienvenida.
Posteriormente, con el presidente fallecido, apareció en el ACTION COMICS NO.309 de Febrero 1964 (un año después de su muerte) en "The Superman Super-Spectacular" by Curt Swan & George Klein, donde Superman tiene que aparecer públicamente en la TV a la vez que Clark Kent.
Pocos meses después, en Julio de 1964, en el SUPERMAN NO.170, aparecerá en la primera aventura titulada "Superman's Mission for President Kennedy" by Al Plastino. La portada de este ejemplar hace referencia a la segunda aventura, una novela imaginaria en dos partes titulada "Si Luthor fuera el padre de Superman" by Swan & Klein.
La historia de la misión de Superman para el Presidente Kennedy fue preparada en cercana cooperación del presidente y estaba programada para publicarse en el SUPERMAN NO.168 pero su asesinato hizo que se retirara. Sin embargo, posteriormente, el Presidente Johnson quiso que se publicara como tributo a su gran predecesor y así se dedicó a su memoria y agradeciendo su programa para tener en buena forma física a la juventud americana.
La 'Splash Page' que se preparó muestra la cara triste de Superman al sobrevolar la Casa Blanca y una imagen del Presidnete Kennedy sonrie a Superman en el cielo.
El Presidente Kennedy aparece en el ACTION COMICS NO.285 en la página 9 de la primera parte, donde le dice a Supergirl que sabe que no solo luchará contra el crimen sino que también preservará la paz en nuestro atribulado mundo. Vuelve a aparecer en la octava página de la segunda parte cuando solicita la ayuda de Superman para luchar contra un monstruo gigante interdimensional que ha aparecido en la Tierra. En la página 10 Jaquline Kennedy y su esposo agradecen a Supergirl su ayuda al vencer al monstruo y en la página 11, Supergirl junto con el Presidente Kennedy, en el orfanato Midvale recibe un ramo deflores de parte de los huérfanos.
En el ACTION COMICS NO.309, el Presidente Kennedy aparece como una sombra reflejada en una pared de la Casa Blanca agradeciendo a Superman por una misión que ha realizado afreciéndose para ayudarle si algún día lo necesita. Vuelve a salir su sombra al ponerse en contacto con el productor del programa de TV "Nuestros Héroes Americanos" donde le preparan una sorpresa al recordarle los eventos de su vida y estar invitados todos sus amigos como el jefe de policía de Smallville, Parker, Pete Ross; Lana Lang, Lois Lane, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Batman y Robin, Lori Lemaris, la Legión de Superhéroes, incluso Clark Kent. Lana y Lois han estado pendientes de la aparición de Clark para comprobar con un ingenio electrónico que es un robot. El Presidnete Kennedy aparece en las dos últimas viñetas y es en la última cuando Superman le dice a Mr. Kennedy que sabía que no arriesgaba su identidad secreta, pues si no puede confiar en el Presidente de los Estados Unidos, ¿en quien puede confiar?. El invitado misterioso del programa de TV que se anuncia en la portada y en la 'splash page' ha sido pues el Presidente Kennedy disfrazado de Clark Kent.
En el SUPERMAN NO.170, el Presidente Kennedy aparece en la 'Splash Page', en toda la página 4 en la que le pide a Superman que colabore en su programa para elevar el estado físico de la juventud americana. Vuelve a salir en la página 7 y en la 10 en las que el presidente agradece a Superman su ayuda y enla última viñeta el editor explica en una nota que el arte original de esta historia ha sido donado a la Biblioteca John F. Kennedy de la Universidad de Harvard.
SUPERMAN AND PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY
We present in this page Superman and John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917-1963) who was the 35th president of the United States and the youngest man elected president. He also was the first Roman Catholic ever to be elected President. As we all know, President Kennedy was elected in November 1960 and assumed office in January 1961. He was in the White House until his assassination by Lee Harry Oswald in Dallas, Texas in November 1963. (Some of these data by Robert Schottler from Falls Church, Virginia).
President Kennedy has appeared three times in Superman comics. The first one in ACTION COMICS NO.285 where Superman presents Supergirl to the World. John F. Kennedy receives and welcome her in the White House in the adventure entitled "The World's Greatest Heroine" by Jim Mooney.
Later, with the President passed away, he will appear in ACTION COMICS NO.309 in February 1964 (his death anniversary) where Superman must appear in a TV show with all his friends including Clark Kent.
A few months later, in July y 1964, President Kennedy will appear in SUPERMAN NO.170 in the the first adventure of the issue entitled "Superman's Mission for President Kennedy" by Al Plastino. The cover of this issue corresponds to a two parts imaginary novel entitled "If Luthor Were Superman's Father" by Curt Swan & George Klein.
The story "Superman's Mission for President Kennedy" was prepared in close cooperation with the late President Kennedy and was scheduled for publication in SUPERMAN NO.168. Because of his tragic assassination National Periodical Publications (DC Comics now) inmediatly took it off the press and substituted other material. However President Johnson wanted it published as a tribute to his great predecessor and so it was dedicated to the memory of the beloved president this plea for his physical fitness program to the American youth.
The Splash Page prepared shows a sad Superman flying over the White House and a beautiful image of President Kennedy smiling to Superman in the sky.
President Kennedy appears in ACTION COMICS NO.285 in page 9 of the first part where says to Supergirl that he knows she'll use her super-powers not only to fight crime, but to preserve peace in our troubled world.
He appears again in page 3 of the second part when calls Superman because a giant interdimensional monster has appeared on Earth. In page 10 Jaquline Kennedy and her husband thanks Supergirl for her help against the monster and in page 11, Supergril with President Kennedy in the Midvale orphanage receive a flower bouquet from the children.
In ACTION COMICS NO.309, President Kennedy appears as a shadow on a wall of the White House thanking Superman for a mission offering his help when Superman need it. He appears again as a shadow phoning the producer of the TV program "Our American Heroes" preparing a surprise to Superman remembering all his life and inviting all his friends: Chief Parker from Smallville, Pete Ross, Lana Lang, Lois Lane, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Lori Lemaris, Batman and Robin, the Legion of Super-Heroes and Clark Kent. Lana and Lois wanted to find that Clark is a robot with an electronic engine.
President Kennedy appears in the last two pictures and in the last one Superman says to him ":I know I wasn't risking my secret identity with you. After all, if I can't trust the President of the United States, who can I trust? The mystery guest of the TV program that is announced on the cover and in the splash page, has been President Kennedy disguised as Clark Kent.
In SUPERMAN NO.170, President Kennedy appears in the splash page and in all page 4 when ask Superman for his help in a fitness program to the American youth. He appears again in pages 7 and 10 thanking Superman his help. In the last picture an Editor note says: the original art of this story will be donated to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library at Harvard University.
