The first Superman annuals appeared in 1960 with the letters GIANT SUPERMAN on the cover.

Uno de los intereses más importantes por el que merece la pena considerar esta fantástica colección, es porque al estar dedicada a reproducir números más antiguos, tenemos aquí la posibilidad de recuperar historias que en su cuaderno original de la época, están actualmente muy revalorizadas y por lo tanto cuestan mucho dinero. En cambio, las podemos conseguir por menos dinero a través de esta colección.

One of the most important interest in buying this fantastic collection is because of its dedication to issues of the past, having the possibility of getting Superman adventures that nowadays are very expensive.

La composición de los cuadernos de esta colección ha estado formada siempre por reimpresiones de números anteriores, bien sea por decisión de la editorial, o por deseo expreso de los lectores que en sus cartas solicitaban que se volviera a publicar tal o cual historia.

All the issues have old stories published by decision of the editorial or sometimes by the readers request.

Otra de las características particulares, es que todas sus portadas son compuestas, indicando o aludiendo cada una de sus partes a las historias que se van a reproducir en su interior.

Another characteistic of this collection is that all its covers are compound by several parts related with the inside adventures.

Los 9 primeros anuales fueron de Superman, dos de Lois Lane y uno de Superboy.

The 9 first annuals were about Superman, two ones with Lois Lane and only one about Superboy.

El GIANT SUPERMAN Nē 9 se utilizó o existe al parecer en dos versiones. La primera con la portada figurando las letras GIANT SUPERMAN Nē 9, y en este sentido, es el anual nē 9 de Superman en 1964, y la segunda con el mismo dibujo en portada, sin la palabra GIANT en letra de molde y en su lugar 80 PG. GIANT Issue NO.1, siendo esta versión el primer número de la colección 80 PAGE GIANT.

The GIANT SUPERMAN NO.9 was in two versions, one as GIANT SUPERMAN NO.9 in 1964 (that would be the Annual No.9 of Superman) and another with the same cover but with the logo 80pg GIANT Issue No.1 (that is the first issue of the 80pg GIANT collection).

Si consultamos, por ejemplo, THE OFFICIAL OVERSTREET COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE, veremos que allí sólo figura este ejemplar como el número 1 de la colección 80 PG. GIANT, incluso en la edición nē 17 viene reproducida la portada tal como indicamos en el párrafo anterior, osea, con el rótulo 80 PG. GIANT, y, al mirar los anuales de la serie SUPERMAN, el nē 9 figura como el perteneciente a 1983.

If we look, for example, THE OFFICIAL OVERSTREET COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE, we'll see that there is only one versiķn as the first issue of the collection 80pg GIANT. But we have seen it announced in Superman issues the version as GIANT SUPERMAN ANNUAL NO.9, and the Superman Annual No.9 will appear in 1983.

Sin embargo, hemos visto reproducida en cuadernos de Superman el anuncio de la portada de este ejemplar en la versión primera como ANNUAL NO. 9 de 1964, como puedes ver arriba.

You can see above the advertisement of GIANT SUPERMAN ANNUAL NO.9 appeared inside Superman comics.

Haciendo un breve recorrido a través de las portadas de los anuales, vemos que el número 1 se dedicó a reproducir historias variadas en las que salían los principales personajes de la saga de Superman. En este sentido es el antecedente inmediato de la serie SUPERMAN FAMILY que saldría 14 años después en 1974 cuando se terminaron las colecciones de LOIS LANE y JIMMY OLSEN.

Seeing the covers of the Superman Annuals, we can see that NO.1 was dedicated to reprint several stories about the main characters of the Superman saga. In this case is the antecedent published fourteen years later, in 1974 as the SUPERMAN FAMILY collection when SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN and SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE ended.

El anual nē 2, está dedicado a enemigos de Superman, reproduciendo historias del ACTION COMICS NO. 218 de 1956 (Titano), SUPERMAN 87 de 1954 (Thing from 40.000 AD), ACTION COMICS NO.252 de 1959 (Metalo), ACTION COMICS NO.242 de 1958 (Brainiac), ACTION COMICS NO.254 de 1959 (Bizarro) y ACTION COMICS NO.267 de 1957 (The Invulnerable Enemy).

Annual No.2 is dedicated to the Superman Enemies, reprinting stories appeared in ACTION COMICS NO.218 in 1956 (Titano), SUPERMAN NO.87 in 1954 (Thing from 40.000 AD), ACTION COMICS NO.252 de 1959 (Metalo), ACTION COMICS NO.242 in 1958 (Brainiac), ACTION COMICS NO.254 in 1959 (Bizarro) and ACTION COMICS NO.267 in 1957 (The Invulnerable Enemy).

El número 3 está dedicado a historias con diferentes transformaciones de Superman, procedentes principalmente de los números 235, 239, 243 y 270, de los años 57, 58, 59 y 60.

El número 4 se centra en aventuras en otros mundos como 'The Menace of Planet Z', del ACTION 168 de 1952, 'The Outlaws From Krypton' del ACTION COMICS NO.194 de 1954, o en otras que se traslada al futuro o hacia el pasado.

Number 4 is about other worlds adventures as 'The Menace of Planet Z', from ACTION COMICS NO.168 in 1952, 'The Outlaws From Krypton' in ACTION COMICS NO.194 in 1954, or in others that travel to the future or past.

El número 5 está dedicado por completo a historias relacionadas con el planeta Krypton procedentes de las series SUPERMAN, SUPERBOY y JIMMY OLSEN.

Number 5 is completely dedicated to stories related with the Planet Krypton appeared in SUPERMAN, SUPERBOY and JIMMY OLSEN.

El número 6 se dedica a los Superhéroes de todas las épocas, desde Hércules y Sansón a Superman.

Number 6 is dedicated to the Super-Heroes from all ages, from Hercules and Sanson to Superman.

Con el número 7 se celebra el Aniversario de Plata, los 25 años de historia de Superman. Para ello se reprodujeron aventuras como "The Story of Superman's Son", "King Krypton the Super-Gorila", "The Punishment of Superboy", "The Black Knight's SuperSword", y otras.

Number 7 conmemorates the Silver Anniversary, the first 25 years of Superman stories. It were reprinted stories as "The Story of Superman's Son", "King Krypton the Super-Gorila", "The Punishment of Superboy", "The Black Knight's SuperSword", and others.

Los números 8 y 9 se dedican respectivamente a las clásicas UNTOLD STORIES, historias no contadas en las que se revela algo que no se había explicado anteriormente, y en el 9 las IMAGINARY STORIES, famosas historias que empiezan con el si condicional como: Si Superman se hubiera dedicado al crimen, Si Superman no pudiera salvar al mundo, Si la familia Kent hubiese adoptado a Supergirl o Si Superman se retirara. Las IMAGINARY STORIES siempre han sido las favoritas de la mayoría de los lectores de la época, ya que en ellas se podía ver lo que normalmente no ocurre, como que Superman se case con Lois Lane, etc.

Numbers 8 and 9 reprinted the classical UNTOLD STORIES (NO.8) and the IMAGINARY STORIES (NO.9) as: If Superman was evil, If Superman can't save the World, If the Kents were adopted Supergirl or if Superman retire. The IMAGINARY STORIES have always been the favourites of the readers, as you were able to see there unusually events as Superman's Wedding with Lois Lane, and so on.

También en la serie LOIS LANE se publicaron dos anuales con la palabra GIANT en letra de molde en la portada. El primero, en 1962 y el segundo en 1963. Finalmente hubo un anual de SUPERBOY con la palabra GIANT sin letra de molde en 1964 y hasta 1983 no volvería a haber más anuales en la serie SUPERMAN.

There were also published two annuals in the LOIS LANE collection with the logo GIANT on the cover. The first one in 1962 and the second one in 1963. Finally there was a SUPERBOY annual with the word GIANT in 1964 and there would be no more Superman Annuals until 1983.

Todos estos números extraordinarios, aparte de contener reimpresiones de historias famosas, han llevado también todo tipo de curiosidades como dibujos del planeta Krypton, portadas de Superman de números antiguos, versiones de portadas en diferentes países del mundo, acertijos con preguntas sobre la saga de Superman en los años 40, etc.

All that extraordinary issues, contained not only reprinted stories but all kind of Superman curiosities as drawings about Planet Krypton, Superman covers from the 40's, Superman covers abroad, riddles about the Superman saga, and so on.
